The Weill Cornell Center for Human Rights (WCCHR) is excited to host the 2025 Immigration & Asylum Medicine Summit on Saturday, October 11th, 2025. In light of ongoing immigration changes, we aim to bring together student-run asylum clinics to share ideas regarding how to adapt, problem-solve, and strengthen our community. Please save the date for our event, which is set to take place from 9 am - 3:30 pm on Weill Cornell’s Campus (1300 York Ave, New York, NY 10065).

Highlights of this event include the following:

• Keynote speaker by Jafar Novruzov, PMHNP-BC is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner whose work focuses on integrative and trauma-informed mental health care. A former WCCHR client, he received a forensic medical evaluation in support of his own asylum case and now serves others by conducting forensic evaluations for asylum-seekers.

• Asylum Medicine Career Panel: We are honored to host leaders in human rights work to discuss diverse paths for careers in human rights and asylum medicine.

• Discussion on intersections between law and humanitarian crises 

• Poster session for student research on human rights work, immigration, and asylum medicine

• Small group breakout sessions for problem-solving and community-building, led by leaders from student-run asylum clinics
