Lymphedema

What causes lymphedema, the swelling caused when lymph fluid builds up in the body's soft tissues?  What is the difference between primary and secondary lymphedema?  There can be a genetic factor.  But lymphedema can also be caused by an infection, by scar tissue, by trauma, by cancer, and by some of the common forms of treatment for cancer.

Occupational Therapist Jill Dennis-Perez will discuss these questions and more.  Ms. Dennis-Perez earned her Master's degree in Occupational Science at Ithaca College.  She has been practicing occupational therapy for 15 year and serving patients at New York-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine for ten years.
