Our specialty practice has seen a change in referral patterns recently, with a number of such referrals being made for common disorders, where often there have been a number of laboratory tests ordered (sometimes too many) with some lack of experience in correctly interpreting the results.
Some new tests have also become available which would simplify diagnosis and newer treatments are also available, resulting in a requirement for a generalist update.
In addition, there has been an increase in the prevalence of disorders such as thrombosis and drug-induced cytopenias and up-to-date information is lacking.
This activity is designed as a periodic refresher for the general pediatric practitioner, to provide updated knowledge on some common disorders, newer testing and treatment paradigms and suggestions for a new and more appropriate referral pattern to be established.
